Cultivating Connections with Care

TGM’s Connect2Care project is dedicated to providing sign language interpreters with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively navigate mental health related work and self-care. The project seeks to address the gap in training for sign language interpreters when it comes to mental health topics, both for their own self-care and for the benefit of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals they work with.

Psychological Testing Interpreter Intensive

Participants in this intensive also receive $50 off their ticket to C2C Con – May 6th!

10 hours of didactic and applied training in culturally-appropriate interpreting practices and administration for psychological testing procedures.

Assessments covered in this training include a variety of standardized tests commonly used in mental health, academic, social services, & medical settings. Collaborative training includes test administration procedures, common issues and challenges, and how to engage with a psychologist or other test administrator during an assessment.

Interpreters will work alongside clinicians to practice developing working relationships, communicating about test procedures, and providing cultural and contextual interpreting in real time.

On day two of the intensive, participants will engage in a full, hands-up assessment process with a mock client, from beginning to end. Feedback from mock clients, clinicians-in-training, and onsite trainers will be provided that day.

Interpreters may choose to be recorded during mock testing procedures in order to receive direct feedback from interpreter educators. Recordings and feedback will be provided within 14 days of the training to allow time for individual review.
